Credit repair letters: in a nutshell

You can do on your own what any credit repair clinic would charge a lot of money to do for you: produce those credit repair letters.

With a simple search of “credit repair” on Google, you will probably find a government site as the first link. It gives an example of a credit repair letter template. You can find these at more websites than I know of. I have reviewed many of them and used a number of them. So, getting an idea what to write in the letter is not difficult. And the Federal Trade Commission says that the best credit repair option is self credit repair!

I have not found many websites that give a guide for how to send out the credit dispute letters. This is easy too, so I can’t say why there aren’t better instructions for it on the web. Well, here are mind:

First, makes sure you have a copy of the denial letter from whatever lender you requested credit from. Send the denial letter to each of the three credit reporting agencies with a request for your free credit report. Additionally, ask the lender who denied you for a copy of your credit report. You would be wise too ask the lender to put a mark next to anything negative on your report. This will help you determine what you will need to think about disputing. Use the credit report given to you by your lender to write your credit dispute letters. Mail the credit repair repair letters out in the mail a few days after you send in the request for the free reports.

There is a specific way to mail in the credit dispute letters: you must include an ID page. The ID page should be one page with a photocopy of your social security card, your driver’s license, and a utility bill. Be certain all the addresses are the same and that they are your present address. (If your DL has an old address on it, you will have to change that first.) Make sure the copy is legible. They like to throw out anything they can, since they get thousands and thousands of pieces of mail a day and they won’t waste their time on anything that is not presented correctly. Send a copy of your ID page with every single letter. Couples must not mix their ID pages or their credit repair letters together. Credit repair is performed on an individual basis!

After you have done all this – just await the results. Watch your mail as your results will come in!
